²⁶This is the meaning of the message:

Mene^[a] means that God has counted up your kingdom and paid it out or spent it.

²⁷Tekel^[b] means that you have been weighed in the scales, and you are too light.

Daniel 5:26 Mene means “measured” or “counted” and suggests mina, a unit for weighing money.
Daniel 5:27 Tekel means “weighed” and suggests shekel, a unit for weighing money.
